The engine of progress
Founded 1864 in Cologne as N. A. Otto & Cie., DEUTZ AG is the world's oldest engine manufacturer. Its founding fathers were a businessman, Nicolaus August Otto with his technical ideas, and a sugar manufacturer, Eugen Langen, who had the necessary money but in particular contributed his business experience.
With the four-stroke engine, which Otto developed in 1876, the process of motorisation started in Cologne that later swept the world. Today DEUTZ, with annual sales of about € 1,200 million, is one of the world's leading independent suppliers of diesel and gas engines. You can find our engines in all kinds of applications, i. e. in construction and agricultural machinery, compressors, commercial vehicles, power generating plants, power units, materials handling equipment, and also in ships. We offer engines with the cooling systems water, oil, and air, covering a power range of 4 to 4,000 kW.
